Filming day five.

We had a gap in the chorus of our music video in which we needed to fill in. So, we filmed a band performance in order to add more locations in our music video. This was very successful in terms of camera shots and camera movements. Unfortunately, when we uploaded it for editing, we found that it did not match up with the rest of the music video in terms of music and the other scenes.

Filming day four.

Today, we have realised that there is not a huge amount of time to film left and therefore we thought that with the availability of cat and crew, we would do some test shots in order to see what works and what doesn't. We did not get everything filmed, but we do know what to do exactly for when we next film, thus allowing us more time to film rather than work out what to do.

Meeting Eight.

- With the amount of time left, we have decided to film and edit as much as possible in a period of a couple of days and this will leave us plenty of time to edit and to re-film if needed. This way we will be able to make the music video at it's best quality.
- To start with, we will film the office scenes with the main singer to add more locations to the music video. After this all we need to film is the band performance, which should take no more than a day.

Website creation for the band.

For the promotion of our band we have to make a website. I decided to stick to the 'boyband' image except give them more of an urban/rock look rather than a 'cheesy pop' image.
By doing this, the background of a concert gives it a 'party' theme instead of using bold and plain backgrounds. I also used a more grown-up font rather than a funky looking font. This way I can attract the best audiences for the band and also audiences who are most likely to listen to the band's music.
I have included pages that I have found in my website research. This included information about the artist, tour dates and merchandise. This has helped me in doing the layout for my website. I have made a few changes such as layout of the 'about name' and the name of the band itself.

I have made quite a few changes to the website in order to get the best audience group and keep the fans satisfied and up to date with what the band is up to. The images used also stick to the 'urban' image of the band which includes graffiti and concerts.
To make the band seem popular, I have added a news feed for twitter and added more tour dates to increase the popular demand of tickets.

Meeting seven.

We originally had a plan to fim and edit on certain days, however, we have had a disruption because of a robbery, restricting us upon what we can do. Luckily we had the footage so we will have to re-edit the music video as soon as possible. On top of this, we still have to film other scenes for the main singer and the band perfromances. In the meantime we are also going to work on our website and individual Digipaks and start to film and edit in the avalible times that we have got.

Editing Phase One.

- We started to edit the footage for Lady Sovereign and most of this was successful as we go the right shots and a good variety of camera angles and locations. Also, everyone arrived on time and the cast member playing Lady Sovereign wore an appropriate costume for the role. Thus, we found it easier to edit and put onto the timeline, matching it with the pace of the song.

- However, whilst editing her parts we noticed that not all of the lyrics were in sync, as the cast member did not lip-sync the song as well as we would have expected. Therefore some of the footage may have to be re-filmed and we'll use the footage that is best.

- On top of this, we saw that this performance looked weak compared to the performance of the main singer which then made the video look unbalanced in terms of performing and acting.

Meeting Three.

Once we got a firm idea of the pitch and locations etc we were able to decide where exactly to film for our music video. Before Filming Day One we searched for locations and after deciding between Beverley park in New Malden and a park next to the Malden Centre; we decided that the second location would be most useful as it includes a park bench, graffiti walls and swings. This made it easier and more accessible to film as everything we need is there.

Our artists record labels.

Lady Sovereign was signed to Casual Records (2004-2005), Chocolate Industries (2005-2006) and Midget Records in 2009 to present. She was also signed a well known record company, The Island Def Jam Music Group between 2005 and 2008.
The Island Def Jam Music Group is a U.S record label located in New York, Amreica and was formed in 1999 when Universal Music Group merged two of its daughter companies Def Jam Recordings and Island Records as a result of the manager between Universal Music and PolyGram labels. The company is also affiliated with Lost Highway Records.
Island Records concentrates on Pop and Rock artists whereas Def Jam has more of the RnB, Hip-Hop and Urban acts. Since 2011, The Chairman and CEO is Barry Weiss. The record company distributes its own records in the U.S, in the U.K via Mercury Records and Univeral Music Group worldwide.
The Island Def Jam Music Group is one of the two Universal Music Group branch labels in the U.S that markets the works of mainstream Pop, Rock and Urban performers. The other branched company is Interscope-Geffen-A&M.

The Ordinary Boys were signed to MCA Music, Inc and B-Unique, they were active from 2002-2008 and after a break they have been active since 2011.
MCA records was an American-based record company owned by MCA Inc. which later gave way to Universal Music Group.
The company has a country division, MCA Nashville Records which is an active imprint of Universal Music Group Nashville, this country music label is the only operation by MCA that still goes on.
B-Unique Records is based in London as a record label which was founded in 2001 by Mark Lewis and Martin Toher. B-Unique Records has been a division of Atlantic Records UK since February 2008.
The record label deals with a variety of acts which range from Rock to Pop to RnB. Its distributors are Warner Music UK and Universal Music Group.

All of the record labels which our artists are signed to, are in some way managed by The Universal Music Group (UMG) and their headquarters are in Santa Monica, California and their Revenue was at $6 billion in 2010 and has been rising since. This record label is a global music company which is also a subsidiary of the French based media conglomerate Vivendi, The Universal Music Group is also the largest of the big three music companies. It also owns the Universal Music Publishing Group making it the second largest  music publishing company in the world. The company was founded in 1934 as Decca Records USA, MCA Music Group Entertainment was formed in 1989. The first UMG incarnation was from MCA in 1996 and the second UMG incarnation was from PolyGram in 1998. Universal music was originally attached to Universal Pictures until 2004 with the acquisition of Vivendi's Vivendi Universal Entertainment by General Electric's NBC. Steve Barnett was appointed as Chairman and CEO from November 2012 after formally serving as COO of Columbia Records. The Universal Music Group also co-developed Vevo, designed for music videos which are of a higher quality than those on YouTube.

Filming Day 1.

We film all of the Lady Sovereign parts, this was very successful as the weather didn't make the filming impossible. We attempted to use the dolly for tracking however we found that the camera was shaking vigorously because of the bumpy ground. We agreed that this will be no good for the music video so we decided to do the majority of the filming handheld.

Meeting One.

Over the past few weeks we have had meetings in discussing different ideas and merging them together for our final pitch for our music video to 'Nine2Five' By The Ordinary Boys and Lady Sovereign. Upon discussing our ideas, we came up with a finalised storyboard and pitch. We have also discussed how our music video will be laid out on our storyboard, by deciding what camera shots and movements to use for what scene and where. This has involved having to make some changes in order for it to run smoothly and the story to make sense.
Our origional ideas was that the lead worked as a presenter, hated his job and Lady Soverign was somehow linked to him, like his manager for example. We decided to change this idea after realising that this made the music video too structured, restricting us on what we can do with the music video. We decided to change this idea completly but keep it along the lines of having low profiled jobs and having band performances.
We have also made a decision upon making the music video have a twist in somehow. Instead of the characters interaciting face to face, as planned before, we decided to connect the two characters together by and object like a clock. Again, the clock indicates the whole purpose of the song 'Nine2Five'.
The reason why we have decided to choose this song is because it consists of a male and female lead, this way we can show a contrast in female and male performances in our music video. We can also identify the different genres used, how their image contrast with each-other and how they fit together to make a pop/street song.

Star image.

A good example of a celebrity who has made drastic maturity and image change since the start of their career is Selena Gomez. Born on 22nd July 1992 in Texas, Gomez's first television appearance was on Barney, alongside Demi Lovato, when she was only seven and had the look of a young innocent girl. From this her career had accelerated to having the main role as Alex Russo in Wizards of Waverley Place on the Disney channel and eventually getting signed to Hollywood Records as Selena Gomez and the Scene.
When she first starred on Disney she would have been expected to be a role model for younger children and would 'have to behave appropriately' to her audiences. However, like other ex-Disney stars such as Britney Spears, Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus; Gomez could be criticised for moving away from younger fans and maturing too quickly as Disney stars are at first portrayed as innocent. As soon as thy leave Disney and deal with teenage issues, their careers change drastically and are no longer innocent Disney stars but are mature adults.

Once signed to Hollywood Records as Selena Gomez and The Scene her success and fame had climbed higher and higher. One of her debut singles 'Falling Down' from her first album 'Kiss and Tell' shows her young, fun and innocent side to herself. The lyrics and video are very cheesy, appealing to her original young audience particularly as it was premiered on the Disney Channel.

From this her third and latest album 'When the Sun Goes Down' we see a different side of Gomez who showed a more grown up image in music videos like 'Love You Like a Love Song' as of the more revealing clothes and heavy make-up. This is a good example of her image maturing now that she is 20 and has grown out of her innocent teenage years. As before her music and style really shows her wanting to break away from her original image.

Additionally, her fame has not only increased because of her appearances in films and releasing a fragrance but also because of her dating Justin Bieber. As Bieber is a worldwide superstar, his fans will find out more about Selena and her audiences will increase. We can see her readily wanting to move on from her innocent image after landing a role in Spring Breakers which is based around issues like of drugs, robbery and parties. This could be considered as her breakthrough into adulthood.

Popular music videos.

This music video has a simple but fun narrative with the singer attacted to a hot guy and this matches with the song and the twist at the end makes the music video memorable. The casting also appeals to a teenage audience which makes it very popular as it has typical features of a cheesy video such as 'the boy next door'.

This video gives us the typical girl-band look as of the costumes and close-ups of the band members. The effects and the MES also makes it appealing to the wide audiences as it makes the video exciting. The editing tecnuiques used also play a role in atrracting audicences by establishing the image of the band.

This music video shows a typical love song created by a popular boy band, including the drummer guitarist singer and keyboardist. We can tell its a love song because of the lyrics and the presence of a girl and this also attracts mainly female audiences.

International male artists like Justin Bieber have mise-en-scenes which appeal to female audiences and this music video in particular is all handheld with no editing techniques and this enables the artist to interact with the audience more with looking in the camera and making it feel as though you are there.

Other successful music videos.

The reason why I think these music videos are successful is because they meet all the codes and conventions of a music video such as a performance, broken narratives or creative scenes. They also go with the songs very well and the performances are believable, this makes the video entertaining and not repetitive. The song choice, casting, camera work, lighting and MES work well together to create an entertaining and believable music video.
