Filming day five.

We had a gap in the chorus of our music video in which we needed to fill in. So, we filmed a band performance in order to add more locations in our music video. This was very successful in terms of camera shots and camera movements. Unfortunately, when we uploaded it for editing, we found that it did not match up with the rest of the music video in terms of music and the other scenes.

Website creation for the band.

For the promotion of our band we have to make a website. I decided to stick to the 'boyband' image except give them more of an urban/rock look rather than a 'cheesy pop' image.
By doing this, the background of a concert gives it a 'party' theme instead of using bold and plain backgrounds. I also used a more grown-up font rather than a funky looking font. This way I can attract the best audiences for the band and also audiences who are most likely to listen to the band's music.
I have included pages that I have found in my website research. This included information about the artist, tour dates and merchandise. This has helped me in doing the layout for my website. I have made a few changes such as layout of the 'about name' and the name of the band itself.

I have made quite a few changes to the website in order to get the best audience group and keep the fans satisfied and up to date with what the band is up to. The images used also stick to the 'urban' image of the band which includes graffiti and concerts.
To make the band seem popular, I have added a news feed for twitter and added more tour dates to increase the popular demand of tickets.

Album advertisement analysis.

This is an album advertisement for Kings of Leon and their album Only By The Night. The advert gives an overall impression of the band which is a rock/alternative image. Unlike most boy-bands, who use bright colours, this band have gone for a more moody and dark image rather than a bright and cheesy image. This is also to reflect on the sound of their music and the kind of impression that they want to portray to audiences.
The advert, has the album cover on as the main and only image to make it recognisable to audiences who will remember the poster and album cover, thus buying their album. It also has an artistic vibe to it which is part of each member in each quarter of the image, this is blended in with an image of a Bald Eagle. This could represent the band all together or it could reflect upon the lyrics in some of their songs.
All around the main image of the advertisement are essential information about the album such as the name and artist. The font is like a typewriter and this gives us an impression that the target audience is more young adults and above rather than young children. It shows hit singles that the audience will recognise and therefore will buy the album. The 'out now' is in red as an alert and something that will catch the audiences eye and so will buy the album.

Eye-tracking for website research.

After some research, I have discovered that according to Eyetracking visualisations, users tend to read webpages in a F-shaped pattern; with two horizontal stripes followed by a vertical stripe. This is by users looking at the upper part of the content area then looking down the page, covering a shorter area. Then they finally scan the content's left side of the website. Here the red shows the most viewed areas whilst th blue shows the least viewd areas.

This helps to follow guidlines in making a website, as a way of atrracted wide audiences. Users won't read texts on websited by word-to-word and lengthly reading would be very rare. Keeping a good balence of information would be good as some readers may read a lot but most won't. To maintain this balence, the first couple of paragraphs should state the most essential information. Although users would read most of the information in paragraph one, they won't read as much in the second paragraph. Because of this, it may be best to use sub-headings, short paragraphs and bullet points to make the information easy and quick to read.

Group influential music videos.

These music videos helped us come up with an idea for our music video to 'Nine2Five' by The Ordinary boys and Lady Sovereign. By sticking to the bases of intertextuality in music videos, we decided to base ours around the main singer who hates his jobs as a news reporter, relating back tot he lyrics of disliking a job. Also we thought of contrasting this with Lady Sovereign showing a more middle class and urban image in her rapping parts.
In terms of editing we decided instead of cutting from one cut to another, we would use lots of camera movements to transfer to one scene to another as seen above.

Music Video Director.

Jonas Ã…kerlund.

This director is known to make music videos in forms of mock short films or trailers which make it very entertaining for wide audiences.
He makes videos in the form of intertextuality such as 'Telephone' by Lady Gaga and Beyonce, where there is a typical image of two 'rebals' making a run away from the police however, this could be critisised for voyeurism because of the revealing costumes and very adult scenes. His aim for this music video was 'A follow up from Paparazzi' where it's very sexy and ends with the singer thrown into jail and getting mugshots. Yet the beginning of the Telephone video starts in jail. This is filmed on a movie set to make it as realistic as possible and has a three minute intro just like a movie along with other narrative breaks with no music making the video around ten minutes in total. This is to make the story behind the video more clear and his aim may be to focus on the characters rather the music itself.

There are other music videos of his which stick to the outline of having an intro at the beginning like a movie. Maroon 5's 'Moves like Jagger' starts off with a mise-en-scene of auditions in black and white before going to colour during the song. This sets up the scene of a typical audition show which has a vintage edge to it i.e from the '80s There are intertextual references in the song as the chorus refers to Mick Jagger, from The Rolling Stones. This reference is seen through the main singer who could be portraying Mick Jagger.

Another music video of his his made of two contrasting versions. The song is 'Who's that chick?' by Rihanna. The day version is a very bright, colourful and girly mise-en-scene whereas the night version is more of a dark, gothy and edgy mise-en-scene.Like the other music videos, there is a shirt simple narrative at the beginning and both the starts and ends of the music videos are laid out like a movie.

For our audience research we had to do a questionnaire  in order to help us with what different audiences like about different genres of mudic. This will also help us with what to do in our music video and album art for our target audience in order to grab their attention and satisfy them.
Once we came up with our song, we could identify the genres and image presented by the artists of our chosen song. Therefore we could have additional questions in order to focus upon the audience that would be attacted to our artists.

10) What is it about RnB and rap music that attracts you? ................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Popular music videos.

This music video has a simple but fun narrative with the singer attacted to a hot guy and this matches with the song and the twist at the end makes the music video memorable. The casting also appeals to a teenage audience which makes it very popular as it has typical features of a cheesy video such as 'the boy next door'.

This video gives us the typical girl-band look as of the costumes and close-ups of the band members. The effects and the MES also makes it appealing to the wide audiences as it makes the video exciting. The editing tecnuiques used also play a role in atrracting audicences by establishing the image of the band.

This music video shows a typical love song created by a popular boy band, including the drummer guitarist singer and keyboardist. We can tell its a love song because of the lyrics and the presence of a girl and this also attracts mainly female audiences.

International male artists like Justin Bieber have mise-en-scenes which appeal to female audiences and this music video in particular is all handheld with no editing techniques and this enables the artist to interact with the audience more with looking in the camera and making it feel as though you are there.
